Have these been found? Hubby saw a pair so I can ask him which track

Hi Guys

Just heads up it has come to our attention that some idiot has decided to set gin traps in the front of the park ( mossop road / cricket club entrance.
Luckily for this animal one of our local vets dogs found it at and she dispatched it humanely with an injection and removed the carcass.

There is a couple of issues here , one we have a large number of dog walkers in the park , and this puts them at risk and there owners if they are following them as well.

Also Gin traps rely on someone checking them leading a long painful death for the animals if this is not done.

And lastly our park is not a hunting ground it’s a mountain bike park .

We remove any traps found and will bin them at a cost to the owner.

Let’s hope this is an isolated incident.

Please keep an eye out and let us know if you find a trap or an animal stuck in one will remove both

If you're dog gets caught throw your shirt or jacket over there head or they will bite you.hold trap with jaws facing away from you pull both levers back with fingers to release dog. it shouldn't be injured. they hurt themselves panicking and pulling they trap itself isnt strong enough to damage the dog. sucks getting ya thumb caught Haha bit harder to remove from yourself with one hand. almost all my dogs have been caught they know what traps are and walk around them.

FUCK THAT!!!! What if I fell off my bike onto one of these? What if I needed to pee and choose that tree? What kind of person thinks this is a good idea? Thanks for the heads-up. Our crew will all avoid Tokoroa from now on. Idiots!

Zara Aitken doggies

I think some people are missing the point here. I agree that no animal should suffer, but the main point is that this is a PUBLIC area. No matter how small the chance is that your dog might get caught in it, there is still a chance. And if it was your dog, you are not going to be very happy. Who pays the vet bill? If ya kids are with you they gonna see ya pet suffering. It is a totally stupid place to set them and I hope they read these comments and decide on a better place next time. Or better yet, get rid of the traps.

Maybe that same caring vet could go into the 1080 areas immediately after a drop and humanely put all the poisoned possums down instead of them having to die a long painful death.

Good on him. help the town keep the pests away save our local wildlife

What vet carries with them on a walk a syringe for putting an animal to sleep, something not right with that statement. Can't see a vet carrying a wild Possum back alive

Moral of the story their shouldn't be traps like that set in this recreational area were people are walking dogs and walking etc (although their is a sign at that end that says no dogs which everyone ignores and I'm one of them) thats if the signs still up was years ago I go the other end now

This is far better and it will keep priming its self.

Unbelievable. When you think people can’t get any more stupid they always surprise you. Thanks for the warning.

They aren't gin traps!. Completely diferent

This is cruelty to animals, a long painful death and it's disgraceful. There must be a better solution to kull of pests🤷

Didn't realise there were so many vegan's here. if you care about wild animals suffering in nature, eat plants 😂

Faaaark, this is actually making me wild... can I donate some game cameras? Can’t believe there’s some clowns in our community that do this shit!!!

Is police involved with what's happened? There needs to be cctv cameras put up

I thought gin traps were illegal

Hey so with the traps..why not if you find one take them to the council stock pile them up then take them all to the scrap metal and get money for them.

be far better with 1080 maybe probably a teen trying to make some cash

Put them with a foot in it, they wil never place one again.

Just my 2 cents these are not gin traps they are the nz approved leg hold traps for pest control

They look like rusted leg holds. Better then 1080.

That sucks, I was out there this morning around 7am and didn't spot anything, will keep my eyes peeled from now on

More to the point!!! What if you kid steps in it!!!

What the he'll were they thinking ?
